NEW YEAR, NEW MIND

Ushered in a whole new year
Writing suddenly appears
Emotions strongly volatile
God, you know, it's been a while

Screaming in the dark of night
My voice is heard until the light
My heart beats faster, faster still
As I summon all my will

Standing taller, feeling strong
Even if some things are wrong
Skies are overcast with gray
But underneath is bright day

I won't let them tear me down
I won't let them see my frown
You try to own my body and my time
But you will never own my mind

Because I've learned to block all of you out.
